Betway Spring Mile (Handicap) (Class 2) 1m, 4yo+

THE Michael Dods-trained Lord Of The Rock won Doncaster’s opening race, the Spring Mile, under a fine front-running ride by Paul Mulrennan.

Drawn in stall four, he galloped strongly and saw off all challengers, including the late thrust of topweight Donncha to oblige at 20-1. While the winner was drawn low, the second, third and fourth came from stalls 19, 20 and 18 respectively with the field coming up the middle.

“We think the world of this horse, he could be anything,” said Mulrennan. “Michael gelded him over the winter and that has made the difference.

“He is a free-going sort, I got a good break, he relaxed in front and when they came to me he battled on well – though the last furlong felt a long way. There should be a lot more to come from him.”

Backers of the Lord Of The . . . double are sitting pretty, with the David O’Meara-trained Betway Lincoln favourite Lord Of The Land a best-priced 6-1.
