FRANKIE DETTORI is out to set the record straight aboard Jeremy Noseda’s Sloane Avenue in the Godolphin Mile at Meydan on Saturday – one year after the pair were narrowly denied in the $1 million Group 2.

Noseda bemoaned the draw of winner and hot favourite Tamarkuz last year, saying he had no doubt the Susan Roy-owned miler was the best horse in the race, with Dettori equally frustrated to be beaten by a short head.

Dettori, who was unveiled on Monday as a Ladbrokes brand ambassador, is determined to go one better on the talented five-year-old, who blew away the cobwebs following a near 11-month lay-off when a length second to Captain Cat in a conditions event at Kempton last month.

Dettori said: “It’d be nice to put the record straight after last year on Sloane Avenue. He’s proved he can win those races. He’s had ten months off, but had a prep race the other day and I rode him work last week. He seems in good form and likes the dirt.”

Sloane Avenue is a best-priced 7-2 chance with William Hill to secure a first Group 2 victory, with Godolphin’s Marking the general 2-1 market leader.

Stiffer task

The Italian rider’s Dubai World Cup mount, Mshawish, seemingly faces a stiffer task in a tough renewal despite landing the Grade 1 Donn Handicap over 1m1f at Gulfstream Park last month.

Trained by Todd Pletcher, the Al Shaqab Racing-owned six-year-old finished a five-length third to Solow in last year’s Dubai Turf though ranks a 14-1 chance with Sky Bet and Coral to land Saturday’s big race.

Dettori said: “Sloane Avenue would be one of the favourites whereas Mshawish is taking on California Chrome, a Kentucky Derby winner, and Frosted so his form has a bigger gap than Sloane Avenue.”
