Unfortunately the opening quartet of runners this season are yet to provide a winner, with Tallinski going very close at Musselburgh, while Another Angel did not progress as expected at Doncaster.

In First Place followed up his debut with a solid fifth at York. Some nice types have been on show in the last couple of weeks, and the Newmarket maiden on 1,000 Guineas day as well as the Ascot maiden won by Camargue should provide plenty of winners.

A trainer to note with juveniles is Joe Tuite. He is yet to have a winner from eight runners, but those he has sent out have outran their odds. He could have a winner or two at a nice price so is worth keeping an eye on.

Mutahaady, Bath, May 2, 6th
Sent off as favourite on debut, a slow start put paid to this colt’s chances, and he only had one rival behind him with a furlong left to run. However, he was staying on for Paul Hanagan under hands and heels, and was only beaten four-and-a-half lengths. Better was clearly expected and it would be no surprise if he leaves that run behind when next seen. He has various entries next week.

Melesina, Chester, May 5, 7th
This filly is likely to be a long-term prospect as her pedigree is all about marathon trips. Around the tight turns of Chester she found things happening too quickly, but to her credit she stayed on nicely at the end. Until she tackles further she will likely struggle to win, but is worth following as the season progresses.

Tiggaliscious, Windsor, May 9, 2nd
This filly was an eyecatcher on debut when fourth at Lingfield, and she improved on that performance here. The front pair were nicely clear at Windsor, and she may have bumped into one. An extra furlong should also be within her remit, and she can gain a victory soon.

High On Love, Newmarket, May 13, 5th
The first juvenile runner of the season for her trainer, Charlie Fellowes, this was a promising effort from the daughter of Requinto. Sent off at 50-1, the market did not expect much, but she did manage to stay on well. This was despite racing rather awkwardly in the dip, and there were definite signs of inexperience. She may need further already, having made her debut over 6f, and is one to keep an eye on.
