DESPITE trainer Wesley Ward’s bullish billing of Create A Dream, the filly was a slight drifter for Brocklesby sponsors Betway on Saturday morning.

Ward has compared the daughter of Oasis Dream favourably with some of the best juveniles he has sent to Britain but Betway’s Alan Alger reported she was out to 5-4 from 11-10 following rain throughout the morning at Doncaster.

“We’re just wondering if the rain might play against her,” he said.

“Mark Johnston looks to have a strong hand with The Last Lion and Crucial Moment has had a bit of each-way support too. I can see why because the top two are taking 75 per cent out of the market.”

Ward v Johnston at Kempton too

There is a similar story at Kempton, where Ward’s other American raider, New Trier, is sharing favouritism in the opening race on the card with Johnston’s Dusker.

“New Trier is 2-1 from 9-4 and again it’s another Johnston horse in opposition, with Dusker the 2-1 joint favourite,” said Alger.

“It doesn’t look like many people are chancing the double on the American fillies at the moment. I think they might just swerve the one at Doncaster, even though what Wesley Ward has said would entitle her to win by about ten lengths!”

Pricewise pick Birdman popular

In the Betway Lincoln, Alger reported strong support for Birdman, who was tipped by Pricewise’s Tom Segal in Saturday’s Racing Post.

Alger also expects support to come for the 2014 winner Ocean Tempest, as punters get behind Frankie Dettori for what is his first ride in the race since 2005.

“Express Himself has been well backed from 14-1 into 12-1 and obviously Birdman being Pricewise has been heavily supported,” said Alger.

“Even though we laid Lord Of The Land as our worst result ante-post, we’ve drifted him out to 13-2 to take him on and Birdman is now our worst loser.

“There’s been a little bit of money for Ocean Tempest and I think that will be popular on track because of the Frankie factor and will go off a much shorter SP.”

Rain set to stop

The going at Doncaster was officially soft on Saturday morning and clerk of the course Roderick Duncan does not expect conditions to ease any further.

“We’ve had a total of 3.5mm of rainfall through last night and this morning,” he said. “The going is soft and I don’t think it will get any worse than that, certainly on the straight course.

“We are forecast to have showers until 11am and then it’s looking fine.”
