DAVID PIPE intends to run leading handicap fancy Doctor Harper in the Kim Muir Challenge Cup on the third day of the Cheltenham Festival, rather than the Ultima Handicap Chase on the opening day of the meeting.

Doctor Harper has been prominent in both markets since his rating reached 141, therefore making hin ineligible for the Close Brothers Novices’ Handicap Chase, for which he was strongly fancied after a comfortable win on his third chase start at Leicester in January.

Giving a steer on the horse’s running plans, Pipe said: “The plan as we stand is to run Doctor Harper in the Kim Muir on the Thursday of the festival rather than the Ultima Business Solutions Handicap Chase on the opening day and Will Biddick has been booked to take the ride.”

Leading player

Doctor Harper is a best price of 7-1 with BoyleSports, Paddy Power and William Hill for the Kim Muir and is second favourite behind the Gordon Elliott-trained Cause Of Causes, who was propelled to the head of the betting when stablemate Our Father was ruled out of the meeting.

Doctor Harper, who runs in the colours of the Johnson family, represents the same connections as last year’s Kim Muir winner The Package.
