SAN ANTONIO – Carmelo Anthony said it is “about damn time” that Jim Boeheim is returning to the Syracuse bench after serving a nine-game NCAA suspension.

“It’s been too long him sitting out … it doesn’t look right over there,” Anthony said on Friday. “Even though I’m a big fan of Mike Hopkins and Boeheim is gonna pass the torch to him very soon. But for the meantime we need Boeheim back in that chair. We don’t need the tape (on the bench) that says Boeheim over there.”

Boeheim’s first game back is Saturday at home against sixth-ranked North Carolina. Anthony led Syracuse to their only national championship as a freshman in 2003. Boeheim is in his 40th season as head coach.
