JONATHAN BURKE has got the green light to ride at next week’s Galway festival and will return to the saddle at Limerick on Thursday to ride Sizing Brisbane in the opening 2m4f maiden hurdle.

The 20-year-old rider, who won the 2015 Galway Plate on Shanahan’s Turn, has been out of action since April 12 with fractured vertebrae suffered from a fall on his father’s [Liam] gallops but got the go-ahead from specialist Paddy Kenny to return on Thursday.

“It is such a relief,” Burke told the Racing Post on Tuesday. “I have never felt better. I have never felt fitter. I feel fantastic so it was brilliant to hear Dr Paddy [Kenny] tell me the good news. It has been a tough year.”

Burke has spent five months of 2016 on the sidelines with two vertebrae injuries and he hopes to start making up for lost time at Galway.

“Galway is a special place for me. Winning the Plate last year on Shanahan’s Turn was very special. Let’s hope he can do it again. I have some great rides over the week and I can’t wait for it. I will be back in the saddle at Limerick on Thursday to ride Sizing Brisbane in a maiden hurdle,” Burke added.
