THE Union-Rennen is regarded as the best trial for the German Derby and all ten runners here are entered in the Hamburg Classic on July 10, headed by the unbeaten Boscaccio.

The ante-post favourite for the Germany Derby, trained by Christian Sprengel and ridden by Dennis Schiergen, finished three lengths and more in front of three of today’s rivals when making all to win Hanover’s Derby trial five weeks ago and is obviously the one to beat.

Savoir Vivre (Jean-Pierre Carvalho/ Freddie Tylicki), an impressive course-and-distance winner at the end of April, did not get the run of the race when fourth on his only other start. Tylicki, who rode his first Group 2 winner last week at Hoppegarten in the top Oaks trial, has good prospects of doubling up here.

Markus Klug, who landed this race with subsequent impressive Derby winner Sea The Moon in 2014, now saddles two runners, El Loco (Adrie de Vries) and Dschingis Secret (Martin Seidl), while Andreas Wöhler is another trainer double-handed, with Cashman (Eduardo Pedroza) and Light Of Air (Jozef Bojko).

Two outsiders are trained on the course: San Salvador (Andreas Löwe/ Andreas Helfenbein) was well behind El Loco last time, while Peter Schiergen will not only be keeping his eye on oldest son Dennis on the favourite, but also on his own Bora Rock, partnered by younger son Vinzenz.
