Blake Griffin breaks hand punching Clippers' staffer: report

Clippers forward Blake Griffin broke his right hand after decking a member of the team’s equipment staff, ESPN is reporting.

Griffin, an All-Star in his first five seasons in the NBA, reportedly got into an argument with a member of the equipment staff during a dinner in a Toronto restaurant. According to ESPN, Griffin hit the unidentified man inside the restaurant and then followed him outside where the 6-10 power forward punched him again.

Blake Griffin is expected to be sidelined for ‘weeks’ after punching a member of Clippers staff.

Sources told ESPN’s Michael Eaves that the guy who Griffin decked suffered injuries to his face and was treated at a local hospital. Both were sent home, ESPN reported.

Griffin, who has missed the last 14 games with a quad injury, suffered a suspected fracture in his right hand. ESPN reports the injury is expected to keep Griffin out of the Clippers’ lineup “a matter of weeks, as opposed to days.”

The Clippers were in Toronto Sunday night for a game against the Raptors as part of a five-game road trip.

L.A. had previously announced that Griffin had hurt his hand in an “undisclosed team-related incident.”

The Clippers (28-16) are currently fourth in the Western Conference entering Tuesday’s game in Indiana.

Griffin, 26, was charged with one count of misdemeanor battery following an incident at a Las Vegas nightclub in 2014, but prosecutors dropped the case last March for lack of evidence.
