Wednesday night’s Golden Gloves event at the East River Kiwanis Club in Astoria served as a benefit for the Hour Children Foundation, which cares for children whose mothers have been incarcerated. It was also a night of semifinal competition for the men’s 152-pound novice and open, 132-pound novice and open, and women’s 165-pound divisions.

Moving on to the finals in the men’s 132 novice class were Christopher Cuellar (Church Street Boxing) and Brandon Brown (Atlas Cops N Kids).

Cuellar defeated Omar Rojas (Ardon Sweet Science) by unanimous decision, and Brown beat Marlon Espinosa (Eastern Queens BC), 2-1.

In the men’s 152-pound novice class, Andrew Fret (Atlas Cops N Kids) defeated Kalief Lindo (Church Street Boxing), 2-1, and Michael Lowrey (Eastern Queens BC) beat Francisco Frometa (Bronxchester BC) by unanimous decision.

The P.C. Richard & Son Boxer of the Night honor went to 152-pounder Justin Biggs (Judah Bros. BC), who beat Digno Peralta (Pac Plex BC), 3-0.

Biggs will next face four-time Gloves champ Brian Ceballo (NYAC), who defeated Moses Okoro (Starrett City BC), 3-0.

The Colony Pest Bout of the Night was the highly anticipated match between Reshat Mati and Bruce Carrington of Atlas Cops N Kids. Carrington won, 2-1.
