Australia won the toss and chose to bowl first at Khettarama, despite the surface’s spin-friendly appearance. The visitors chose to field just a single specialist spinner, while Sri Lanka have picked three.

Legspinner Adam Zampa plays as Australia’s sole spinner, with Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, James Faulkner and Moises Henriques expected to provide the bulk of the remaining 50 overs. Also in the XI is batsman Travis Head, playing his second ODI. There is no room in the side for Usman Khawaja or Shaun Marsh.

Two spinners make debuts for Sri Lanka – left-arm wrist spinner Lakshan Sandakan, who made a promising start to his international career in the recent Test series, is given an ODI run, while 23-year-old left-arm spinner Amila Aponso plays his first international. Allrounders Thisara Perera and Milinda Siriwardana return to the side after being dropped for the England series. Thisara and Angelo Mathews are the only seam bowlers for the hosts. There are six spin options in all, in the XI.

There is a chance of showers in the evening.

Sri Lanka: 1 Kusal Perera, 2 Tillakaratne Dilshan, 3 Kusal Mendis, 4 Dinesh Chandimal, 5 Angelo Mathews (capt), 6 Dhananjaya de Silva, 7 Milinda Siriwardana, 8 Thisara Perera, 9 Dilruwan Perera, 10 Amila Aponso, 11 Lakshan Sandakan

Australia: 1 David Warner, 2 Aaron Finch, 3 Steven Smith (capt), 4 George Bailey, 5 Moises Henriques, 6 Travis Head, 7 Matthew Wade (wk), 8 James Faulkner, 9 Mitchell Starc, 10 Adam Zampa, 11 Josh Hazlewood
