DANZENO and Twilight Son have been declared to renew rivalries in the Group 2 Duke of York Clipper Logistics Stakes at York on Wednesday with Mick Appleby confident his stable star is “the one to beat”.

The pair locked horns in the Group 1 Qipco British Champions Sprint in October with Twilight Son a two-length second to star sprinter Muhaarar and Danzeno just a length-and-a-half behind in third.

However, Appleby’s sprinter is 6lb better off on Wednesday and the all-weather champion trainer is hopeful Danzeno can land the £68,052 prize.

Appleby said: “He should go well. He’s in good order and has grown and filled out again from last year. I expect him to run a big race.

“Looking at the race, I think we’re the one to beat in it, to be honest.  As long as it stays on the quick side of good, it would be perfect for him.”

First spin for Hanagan

Paul Hanagan takes the ride on the talented five-year-old for the first time with Appleby still hoping the Group 3 scorer can prove himself at the highest level this campaign.

Appleby said: “I’ve always said he’s going to be better when he’s five and six. So I think it might be his best couple of years now.

“I’ve always regarded him as a Group 1 horse – I’m quite optimistic he can go and land one this year.”

Competitive contest

The 6f sprint is by no means a two-horse race with Charlie Hills’ exciting four-year-old Magical Memory heading the market, as short as 9-4 with Betfred and Bet Victor.

Twilight Son is a best-priced 4-1 chance with the same firm while Danzeno is a general 6-1 shot, with Mattmu the next in the betting at 10-1 with Paddy Power.
