DON COSSACK (best price 5-1)
There has been a rush to judgement after Don Cossack laboured to victory in the Kinloch Brae Chase, with calls for all sorts of headgear to help him at Cheltenham.

Don Cossack wants a test of stamina and his best form is on typical spring ground. The Gold Cup is surely just a friend he has not met.

He has, however, got a bit of bad blood with the Gold Cup’s setting. He has failed twice at Cheltenham, with jumping the main sticking point. It may yet prove his biggest obstacle to Cheltenham glory, headgear or not.

DON POLI (best price 6-1)
When it comes to form achieved, Don Poli is significantly behind the other main contenders for this year’s Gold Cup. His buoyancy in the market is down to one major factor: his stamina-laden profile.

Don Poli has done what is required of him so far, grinding it out all the while, and the Gold Cup is a race that is expected to bring the best out in him.

That’s the theory, anyway. In practice, this is the hottest Gold Cup for many years and he may find himself struggling to keep up.
