HIGHLAND LODGE delighted trainer Jimmy Moffatt as he warmed up for the Crabbie’s Grand National with a gallop after racing at Haydock.

He was ridden by the trainer himself in a workout with stablemate Amuse Me, partnered by his Aintree jockey Henry Brooke, over a circuit of the track.

“He is some horse when he is on the course,” Moffatt said. “I could hardly hold him!

“That was perfect, he is in great form.”

Highland Lodge has been aimed at the Grand National since he won the Becher Chase over the unique Aintree fences last December.

But the ten-year-old, who has not raced since the Becher, is not guaranteed a place in the field a fortnight on Saturday as he is currently 52nd in the list for a race with a safety limit of 40.
