A scary moment during the Sixers’ 95-89 win over the Nets Friday night ended with Philadelphia forward Robert Covington being stretchered off the floor.

The injury occurred in the third quarter when fellow Sixer Jerami Grant inadvertently kicked Covington in the jaw as he fell to the floor.

The sequence began when Nets guard Donald Sloan drove into the paint and slipped a pass to Thaddeus Young, undercutting Grant as he released the ball. Grant fell forward as his legs swung up behind him, his foot connecting directly with Covington’s face. Covington spun around and toppled to the ground. Young then fell on top of Grant.

Both Grant and Covington remained on the floor for several minutes after the collision. Covington was put in a stretcher with his head stabilized before being wheeled off the floor. Grant left the game and is being evaluated for a concussion.
