Japan: Last year’s dual Classic winner Duramente, who returned from a long injury layoff to win the Nakayama Kinen last month, will travel to Dubai to contest the Sheema Classic on World Cup night.

On the same day the Roger Varian-trained Postponed enhanced his claims with a dominant victory in the Group 2 Dubai City Of Gold at Meydan, Duramente’s connections confirmed plans to head over for the 1m4f contest on March 26.

“It’s an important meeting watched by the world and the prize is big,” said Shunsuke Yoshida, representative of owners Sunday Racing Co Ltd.

“I had requested this challenge to the trainer Noriyuki Hori, if his condition had been fine. The next target after returning to Japan is not fixed but I would like to make the Arc.”

Duramente, who tops the ante-post betting for the Arc with some firms, is a general 7-2 second favourite for the Sheema Classic behind 3-1 market leader Postponed.
