TAMPA – The Yankees will honor Shannon Forde, the Mets’ media relations director who died Friday after a lengthy battle with cancer, with a moment of silence before Saturday’s game against the Red Sox.

Willie Randolph, in Yankees camp as a guest instructor, worked closely with Forde, who was 44, during his time as manager of the Mets from 2005-08.

“I will always remember her as a tremendous human being, one of those women who quietly touched so many people’s lives. As manager of the Mets she was invaluable to me,” Randolph said. “Shannon was always smiling, always there to help with anything and everything. My wife also got to know her well, so we’re just really sad today.

“I know she was struggling for a long time, but she fought it so hard. I’m really heartbroken. She was one of those rare, saintly kind of people in this world. Just a sweet spirit, a genuine giving human being, and you could always tell she really loved the Mets and her job. I am so saddened by this.”

Yanks outfielder Carlos Beltran also remembered Forde fondly from his Mets tenure from 2005-11.

“I heard about it (Friday) night, it is very, very sad,” Beltran said. “She was such a nice lady, always tried to take care of me and my family, anything they needed. It’s a sad moment, but I know she was battling with this for a long time. It’s sad to see such a great person like that, go through something like that and go so young. It’s just terrible. Life is so fragile, and I pray for her family.”
