Ten Up Novice Chase (Grade 2) 3m, 5yo+

RUBY WALSH suffered more last-fence agony in a high-profile contest after Black Hercules came to grief when leading to open the door for stablemate Measureofmydreams to score at 12-1.

Eight days on from hitting the deck as Valseur Lido blundered away his chance in the Irish Gold Cup, Walsh was again cursing his luck as Black Hercules got in too close at the final fence.

Prior to that the Willie Mullins-trained 4-11 favourite had put in a blemish-free round and he was left unchanged by Paddy Power at 7-2 favourite for the National Hunt Chase at the Cheltenham Festival.

Black Hercules was reported to be okay following the mishap and although the incident will overshadow the victory for Measureofmydreams, the Gigginstown-owned eight-year-old was challenging his much-touted rival at the last.

A winner on his chase debut at Punchestown last month, Measureofmydreams shortened up in the Cheltenham markets, where his entries include the National Hunt Chase, RSA and JLT.

Walsh, whose last flight fall on Annie Power in last season’s OLBG Mares’ Hurdle spared bookmakers an estimated £50 million payout on Mullins multiples, had earlier on the card benefited from the exit of Tell Us More when winning the Flyingbolt Novice Chase on Sambremont.

Annie Power set for Punchestown run

Annie Power is entered to run at Punchestown on Wednesday and Mullins told the Racing Post on Sunday she was bang on course for the race.

“I would say Annie Power will almost definitely turn up at Punchestown. It is highly likely at this stage anyway,” he said.

“She worked yesterday morning and, while I wasn’t there to see the piece of work as I was in England, everyone seemed very happy with her.”

Annie Power is generally 4-1 second favourite for the World Hurdle and 8-11 for the OLBG Mares’ Hurdle.
