New Savannah baseball team letting fans vote on team name

The new Coastal Plain League team could be the Savannah Bananas.

Now batting, the Savannah Bananas.

The future of the new Savannah baseball team is in your hands.

Or, at least, their name is.

The new Coastal Plain League team is letting fans choose the new team name, more power than some deserve.

The franchise has given voters five options for their new name: the Savannah Anchors, the Savannah Seagulls, the Savannah Ports, the Savannah Party Animals and the Savannah Bananas.

They also left an option for a write-in nomination.

The new Savannah team, part of the summer wooden-bat league whose alumni include Justin Verlander and Russell Wilson, will announce the results on Feb. 25.

Most recently, the New Britain Rock Cats used a similar method to rename their team after moving to Hartford.

The Yard Goats was an inspired choice.
